How the payment cycle works
Social grants are paid as early in the month as possible, staggered across three working days in the same order every month: older persons first, then disability grants, then children's grants. Payments are never made on a weekend or a public holiday - if a date would fall on one, payment moves to a working day.
Grant amounts
These amounts have applied since the increase in April 2026.
- Older Persons Grant: R2 400 per month
- Disability Grant: R2 400 per month
- Care Dependency Grant: R2 400 per month
- War Veterans Grant: R2 420 per month
- Foster Child Grant: R1 290 per month
- Child Support Grant: R580 per month
- Grant-in-Aid: R580 per month
- SRD Grant: R370 per month
How to check your own payment
You can check your grant status and payment date without airtime data by dialling *134*7737# on any South African network. SASSA also answers on WhatsApp on 082 054 0016.
Watch out for scams. SASSA will never phone or message you asking for your PIN, card number or an OTP. Nobody legitimate needs those to pay you. Ignore payment dates circulating in WhatsApp groups and check them against an official source.
