Former SABC sports presenter and music-rights activist Owen Ndlovu has died at the age of 54, his family confirmed on Wednesday, 16 September 2026.
Ndlovu was reported missing on Tuesday night after his family said he had allegedly been kidnapped by armed men in Katlehong, Ekurhuleni.
His body was discovered by residents in Thokoza on Wednesday morning. According to a statement from the family, Ndlovu had suffered gunshot wounds, while his bag was found a few metres from where his body was discovered. His wife, Portia Ndlovu, later identified his body at a mortuary.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear. The family said it was awaiting further information from the relevant authorities and appealed for privacy while investigations continue.
Ndlovu was a familiar figure in South African broadcasting, having worked as an SABC sports presenter and commentator. He later became prominent in the music industry, particularly through his work as a music-rights activist and his criticism of aspects of the country's royalty-collection system.
His death comes just a day after reports of his alleged abduction sparked concern among his family and colleagues.
Police investigations into the circumstances of his death are expected to continue.
