Daily Lotto

Daily Lotto is drawn every night and the top prize is always paid out - if nobody matches all five numbers, the money rolls down to the next division instead of rolling over to the following night. Players choose 5 numbers from 1 to 36. The odds of matching every main number are approximately 1 in 376 992.

PowerBall

PowerBall is drawn every Tuesday and Friday. Players choose five main numbers from 1 to 50 plus a PowerBall from 1 to 16, drawn from a separate machine - which is why the PowerBall can repeat one of the main numbers. Players choose 5 numbers from 1 to 50, with a powerball drawn from 1 to 16. A board costs R10.00 per board. The odds of matching every main number are approximately 1 in 33 900 160.

PowerBall XTRA

PowerBall XTRA is the add-on game that replaced PowerBall Plus in June 2026. It uses the same numbers you played in the main draw and is drawn straight afterwards. It also has a Jackpot Cascade rule: if nobody matches everything in the last draw of a calendar month, the jackpot is shared among Division 2 winners instead of rolling over. Players choose 5 numbers from 1 to 50, with a powerball drawn from 1 to 16. A board costs R5.00 per board, on top of a PowerBall entry. The odds of matching every main number are approximately 1 in 33 900 160.

Lotto

Lotto is drawn every Wednesday and Saturday. Players choose six numbers from 1 to 52 - reduced from 58 when Sizekhaya took over in June 2026, which improved the odds - and a seventh bonus ball is drawn for the secondary divisions. Players choose 6 numbers from 1 to 52, with a bonus ball drawn from 1 to 52. The odds of matching every main number are approximately 1 in 20 358 520.

Lotto Plus 1

Lotto Plus 1 is an optional add-on played with the same numbers as your main Lotto entry, giving a second draw and a second chance on the same board. Players choose 6 numbers from 1 to 52, with a bonus ball drawn from 1 to 52. A board costs R2.50 per board, on top of a Lotto entry. The odds of matching every main number are approximately 1 in 20 358 520.

Lotto 5 Max

Lotto 5 Max replaced Lotto Plus 2 in June 2026. It is played with the same numbers as your Lotto entry and carries a Jackpot Cascade rule - the last draw of every month is guaranteed to pay out, rolling down to Division 2 or 3 if nobody matches all six. Players choose 6 numbers from 1 to 52, with a bonus ball drawn from 1 to 52. A board costs R2.50 per board, on top of a Lotto entry. The odds of matching every main number are approximately 1 in 20 358 520.

Checking a ticket

Compare the numbers on your ticket against the numbers above. The order they were drawn in does not matter. Prizes are paid across several divisions rather than only the jackpot, so it is worth checking even if you have matched two or three numbers. If you played an add-on game, check that row separately — it is a different draw using the same numbers you chose.

Smaller prizes can be claimed at any licensed National Lottery retailer. Larger amounts must be claimed at a regional lottery office or through the channel you bought the ticket on, with the original ticket and your ID. Lottery winnings are not taxed as income in South Africa. There is a deadline for claiming, so do not sit on a winning ticket.
