Police have launched a specialised investigation after four women were found dead in the Kempton Park area over the past two months, raising fears that the cases could be connected.
The bodies were discovered in the Rhodesfield area, with investigators noting similarities in the circumstances surrounding some of the deaths.
The latest body was found on Saturday evening, 12 September, in an area near the R21. Three other women had been found in the same general vicinity since July.
According to SAPS, some of the women were found partially or completely undressed and with visible bruising. The discovery sites are also located relatively close to one another.
However, police have warned against jumping to the conclusion that a serial killer is responsible.
Acting Gauteng police commissioner Major General Fred Kekana said investigators were considering all possibilities and that it would be premature to conclude that the cases were linked or involved a single perpetrator.
Police establish task team
SAPS has established a dedicated multidisciplinary task team to investigate the deaths and determine whether there is a connection between them.
The team includes detectives from the Murder and Robbery Unit, the Investigative Psychology Unit and other specialised resources. The investigation is being led by Gauteng deputy police commissioner Major General Mbuso Khumalo.
Police have also issued an urgent warning to women in and around Kempton Park, particularly Rhodesfield.
Women have been urged to avoid walking or running alone in isolated areas, remain vigilant and, where possible, travel or exercise in groups.
The warning follows growing concern among residents after the discovery of the four bodies.
Police appeal for information
SAPS is appealing to residents, motorists, security personnel and anyone who may have noticed suspicious activity in Rhodesfield or surrounding areas to come forward.

For now, police are investigating whether the four deaths are connected — but there is no official confirmation of a serial killer operating in Kempton Park.
