Boity Thulo

Boity Thulo, born Boitumelo Thulo on 28 April 1990, is a South African television personality, actress, rapper, model and entrepreneur. Born in Potchefstroom, North West, she was raised largely by her maternal grandmother and aunt. She is 36 years old in 2026.

Early life and education

Boity studied psychology and criminology at Monash University, but did not complete her studies after financial difficulties made it impossible for her to continue. Her entry into entertainment came through modelling and advertising, including a Wimpy commercial in 2010.

Television breakthrough

Her television career began in the early 2010s, with presenting work on YOTV's Crib Notes and SABC1's The Media Career Guide Show. She went on to host or appear on programmes including Club 808, Zoned, SkyRoom Live, Ridiculousness Africa, Change Down and Big Brother Africa.

Boity also established herself as an actress. One of her best-known roles was Mpho Bogatsu in the drama series Rockville, where she appeared across four seasons. She later appeared in productions including Dear Betty, Mrs Right Guy, High Rollers and Rhythm City.

Music career

Boity expanded into music in 2017, making her rapping debut during the Migos Culture Tour in South Africa.

In 2018, she released “Wuz Dat?” featuring Nasty C, which became a major milestone in her music career. The song won Best Collaboration at the South African Hip Hop Awards and helped establish Boity as a serious hip-hop artist rather than simply a television personality.

She followed it with songs including “Bakae” and released her debut EP, 4436, in 2020. She subsequently signed with Def Jam Africa, with 4436 earning a nomination for Best Hip Hop Album at the South African Music Awards.

Business and entrepreneurship

Away from entertainment, Boity has built a business portfolio spanning fashion, beauty, wellness and consumer products. She collaborated with Sissy-Boy on fashion collections and partnered with Impulse SA on limited-edition fragrances. She also launched her wellness-focused business, Human Limitless.

Her ability to move between television, acting, music, fashion and business has made her one of South Africa's most recognisable entertainment personalities.

In 2019, Boity was named among Forbes Africa's 30 Under 30 in the creatives category for her contribution to the entertainment and music industry.

Personal life

Boity's personal life has frequently attracted media attention, particularly her former relationship with rapper Cassper Nyovest. The pair were engaged before ending their relationship in 2015.

Today, Boity's career is defined by her transformation from a young television presenter and model into a multi-platform entertainer, recording artist and entrepreneur.
